I understand that, before 6 month, typical infants babble the same universal sounds all around the world. I assume that after 6 months, kids start babbling in their native language. And I assume we should call this “echoic behavior” reinforced by sounds that have themselves been paired with reinforcers, e.g., from mama, et al.

What are your thoughts?
What about autistic infants? To what extent and when do they end up babbling in their native language?
Any data?
It also looks like autistic kids babble less and start babbling at a latter age?
Any data?
And I assume this is because vocal sounds of mama and others are less reinforcing for autistic kids?
Any data or thoughts?
